Work with giant pandas in China
Projects
Abroad's Animal Care project in China offers volunteers the opportunity
to work at China's most established giant panda conservation and
research center.
The giant panda is one of the world's most iconic
endangered species. As a volunteer you can get involved in protecting
this lovable but threatened animal, whether you are on a gap year,
volunteer vacation, or career break. The giant panda population has
declined rapidly over the last few decades as a result of extreme
habitat loss and low birth rates. Poaching has also historically
impacted the numbers. It is generally agreed that only 1000-1500 pandas
still exist in the wild. However, some conservationists are now
estimating numbers are actually as high as 3000 and are convinced that
recent conservation measures are working. Now you have the opportunity
to be a part of this valuable conservation effort by volunteering at the
panda research center. Learn more »

Kerri Jang - Care in Moldova
I
have always been someone who loves helping others, and I have always
had a desire to travel. Thus, I was ecstatic to learn that Projects
Abroad could offer me an opportunity to satisfy both of these desires at
the same time. I eventually made the decision to volunteer in Moldova, a
country that I had never heard about. With no command of Romanian or
Russian (the two main languages of the country), and not knowing what to
expect, I was soon off on an exhausting 15 hour flight to Moldova. Learn more »

Kathryn Hopkinson - Teaching in Samoa
My
name is Kathryn and after graduating I worked for a year before
deciding to pack my bags and volunteer. It was a daunting prospect being
the first ever Projects Abroad volunteer in Samoa and being told on
arrival that I was now to be a legend was even more daunting. I had
chosen Samoa on a whim really. My older brother had been with Projects
Abroad to Cambodia and, on learning of my wish to travel, told me to go
for it! I wanted to see more than one place and it made sense to put
Fiji and Samoa together. Samoa is not a place many people know and there
was a sense of adventure in going somewhere completely new. Learn more »
