The death toll of the shooting rampage in Santa Monica rose to six
Sunday after one of the victims was taken off of life support.
The family of Marcela Franco, 26, made the agonizing decision to pull the plug three days after she was declared brain dead.
Franco was riding in the passenger seat of a red Ford Explorer with her
father Friday just before noon when the shooter opened fire.
The dad, Carlos Navarro Franco, 68, was killed and the SUV crashed through a wall, leaving his daughter fatally injured.
The rampage had begun just minutes earlier, authorities said, when the
suspect killed his father, Samir Zawahri, 55, and his brother Chris, 25,
and set the dad’s house on fire.
The Kevlar-clad shooter then carjacked a vehicle at gunpoint, headed toward Santa Monica College, and had the fatal encounter with the Francos.
He then killed one more on campus using a .223 semiautomatic rifle.
The gun is similar to the AR-15 assault rifle used in the massacre at the Sandy Hook school in Newtown, Conn.
Authorities have not identified the suspect, but the Los Angeles Times reported he is John Zawahri, 23.
A family friend told the paper the disturbed man was obsessed with guns and may have snapped in part because of his parents’ bitter divorce.
Zawahri had "a fascination with guns.
We were all worried about it. ... Everyone is wondering where he got the money for the weapons," the friend, speaking anonymously, told the paper.

The suspect was caught on film as he entered Santa Monica College Friday to kill one people, after already killing four, including his dad and brother, authorities said. Cops later killed the gunman.
