12/6/2010 Eritrea (ANS) Eritrean Christian Flees Native Country After Years of Persecution- For over three years, Benji, a 23-year-old Eritrean Christian, was beaten, deprived of food and water, and forced to stay in tiny, metal, shipping containers for long periods of time. The reason for Benji’s suffering was his unfailing faith in Jesus Christ. Benji’s captors tried to get the loyal Christian to renounce his faith, but Benji refused—even if his refusal meant harsher and longer punishments. After three years of watching other captured prisoners—prisoners who had become friends—die around him, Benji finally decided to escape. After days of enduring the harsh African elements, Benji was finally found by SWI staff members. Benji is currently residing in a refugee camp. Full Story Pray that SWI is able to help Benji leave the refugee camp and begin a new life. Pray that Benji is able to be nursed back to health both physically and mentally. Pray that the Eritrean government will stop allowing Christians to be imprisoned for their faith. |

12/3/2010 Somalia (CDN) Somali Teenage Girl Shot to Death for Embracing Christ- The parents of Nurta Mohamed Farah, a 17-year-old Somali girl, thought that their daughter was mentally ill when she renounced Islam and converted to Christianity. Her parents had a doctor prescribe their daughter medication for her “mental illness.” However, when the medication did not cure Nurta of her Christianity, the faithful believer’s parents decided that torture was the key. Yet, not even inhumane torture could sway Nurta from Jesus. She was ready to die for her faith...and that is exactly what she did. On November 25, 2010, Nurta Mohamed Farah, was gunned down and killed. Sources say that Nurta’s relatives are probably responsible for this young Christian’s death—an “honor killing.” Full Story Pray that Nurta’s faithfulness in the face of death will touch many Somali Muslims’ hearts. Pray that Nurta’s killers will be arrested and brought to trial. Pray that the Somali government will take measures to protect its Christian citizens. |
