Fort Hood Responds to Furor Over Radical Islamic Speaker

Just one month after an Islamic terrorist went on a shooting rampage at Fort Hood, there comes a new outrage.

Last week, a top official from the Islamic Society of North America (ISNA) was invited to lecture on Islam at the base.

Louay Safi lectured US troops about to deploy to Afghanistan about the “Theology of Islam.”

I discussed Safi on today's 700 Club with Lee Webb and Pat Robertson. Watch it here.

Safi has been captured on FBI wiretaps talking to the convicted Palestinian terrorist, Sami Al-Arian. Safi's group, ISNA, was named as an unindicted co-conspirator in the largest terror financing trial in US history.

Evidence introduced at that trial showed that ISNA is closely tied to the Muslim Brotherhood, a global jihadist movement that is the forerunner of Al Qaeda and Hamas.

Safi has also worked for a Saudi-funded group, called the International Institute for Islamic Thought, that has been on federal investigators' radar screen for years.

So why would Fort Hood, of all places, welcome him to speak to American soldiers?

CBN News posed that question yesterday to Fort Hood spokesman Tyler Broadway. Here was his response:

"Dr. Louay Safi did speak, at Ft. Hood, and was one of the faculty members during The Leader Development
& Education for Sustained Peace program (LDESP) seminar for the 135 Expeditionary Sustainment Command.

He spoke about the Theology of Islam - focus was understanding the basic the comparative principles of Christianity, Judaism, and Islam.

1st Army provides a series of briefings to incoming units. One of briefs is about the training and capabilities available to battalion level and above.

Theology of Islam is one of the classes that the 135 Expeditionary Sustainment Command wanted to receive.

The Leader Development & Education for Sustained Peace program has several other speakers that also present on this subject, individuals are invited based on learning objectives, audience experience, and availability.

LDESP says they were not aware of the alleged association, but has had no issues or concerns over his presentations nor has any unit raised any."

Broadway then pasted a brief bio of Safi which, of course, did not mention his radical associations.

Those associations are readily accessible through a simple Google search on the Internet and are concrete, not "alleged." Which raises the question, yet again:

who is doing the vetting at Fort Hood?

Or the White House, DOJ and the FBI, all of whom have ongoing relationships with ISNA as well ?
