Amid a campaign to arrest Christians, Vietnam’s communist government has implemented a new decree, giving authorities greater control over  the religious lives of its citizens. The latest to be convicted are 14 political activists—most of them Catholics between 24-39 years old. They are accused of “plotting to overthrow” the government. At a recent meeting between Chinese and Vietnamese government officials, Vice Chairwoman of National Assembly of Vietnam, Ms. To Ping Thi Phong, said her country would increasingly model itself after China in matters of religious policies.

Pray Christians in Vietnam’s prisons be found innocent and released.
Pray for the Gospel to infiltrate the Vietnamese government.
Pray for greater religious freedom in Vietnam.

China has announced the nation’s labor camps will be overhauled. These camps have been used over the past several decades to imprison various types of dissidents, including Christians, without trial. Chinese Christians, though, believe that closing the camps or changing the prison system will have little effect on religious freedom in the country.

Pray that China will follow through on its promises to overhaul and close down labor camps.
Pray Christians in China’s labor camps be released.
Pray the overall persecution of Christians will decrease in China.
Islamic Extremists Advance South as Christian Persecution Increases
1/11/13 Mali (WND)
Article Image
Islamist militants in Mali’s northern region are making their way south. As they go, they are being met with resistance by the Mali government. However, it is believed that Mali’s military cannot withstand the brunt of a full al-Qaeda offensive. The militants’ goal is to take the cities of Kona and Mopti while on their way to their end-target: Bamako, Mali’s capital. Once there, the Islamists intend to force the government to apply Sharia law throughout Mali.
Pray that God would spoil the plans of the Islamic extremists and protect all of Mali’s citizens.
Pray that the Mali government will have the resources it needs to protect its nation.
Pray that the strength of Christians in Mali will be renewed; that they may be able to stand strong in their faith in Jesus Christ.
