News and Prayer for the Persecuted
7/13/10 Uganda (SperoNews) Coordinated Bomb Attacks in Uganda
A night that was intended to be a time of fun and celebration for the first World Cup on African soil turned into a nightmare when Al-Shabaab miltiants killed at least 74 people in coordinated bomb attacks in Kampala, Uganda. The Somali Islamist group confirmed that they were responsible for the blasts and were reported as saying they "were happy" with the outcome. Another militant with Al-Shabaar was more specific: "We have killed many Christians in the enemy capital." While Uganda has remained a relatively peaceful country with a flourishing church, Al-Shabaab has threatened more attacks should Uganda continue to keep troops in Somalia to assist in the peace-keeping process in the war-torn country. Full Story Pray that people suffering as a result of these attacks will find comfort and healing in God. Pray that Al-Shabaab's plans for future attacks will be divinely thwarted. Pray that Ugandan Christians will be a strong witness for Christ and will remain strong in their faith despite fear of attack and persecution. |

7/8/10 Pakistan (CDN) Muslim Mob Kills Wife, Four Children "You must leave with your family. No non-Muslim has ever been allowed to live in this colony. We want to keep our colony safe from scum." These were the words spoken to Jamshed Masih, a police officer in Jhelum, Punjab Province, by Muslim leader Maulana Mahfooz Khan before his wife and four children were murdered at the religious leaders hands. Masih's 11 year-old son sang hymns on the way to the store to buy a packet of detergent. "I don't sell to any non-Muslim. You are not welcome here. Don't you dare ever come to my shop again," he was told. When the boy went home, he told his mother, Razia, about the encounter. She grew worried and called her husband saying "Jamshed, please come home quickly, the kids and I are very worried. We must leave this house today."Soon after her phone call, some area residents came to the door with Khan. Khan accused the 11 year-old of blasphemy against Muhammad and delared that they couldn't allow him to live and that he should be punished. When Razia protested that her son couldn't do such a thing since he was only 11, Khan became furious at the accusation of him lying. Someone from the crowd hit her on her head and she pleaded for them to have mercy on her. Her children stood by watching, crying and shouting for help. His daughter called the police but before the police had arrived, the entire family had been murdered. Local authorities have refused to allow Masih to file any complaints because "Khan is an influential man and your son committed blasphemy. We cannot do anything against him." Full Story Pray for comfort, peace, and love to be poured on Jamshed in this time of terrible loss and suffering. Pray that the authorities will have a change of heart and will seek justice again Khan and the group of Muslims who murdered this family. Pray that Jamshed will not waiver in his faith despite overwhelming loss and pain. Pray that God would show Himself as the Great Comforter in this time for Jamshed. |
