Hamza Abu to sling his hook?

Abu Hamza: Next preaching engagement in America?

Well it looks like Abu Hamza is set to wow the girls at the “supermax” security jail in Florence, Colorado — known as the Alcatraz of the Rockies. And who could resist him? With his out-spoken strong demeanor, he cuts a striking dash of a man. Let’s hope he goes down well for the next 50 years or so.

Daily Mail – Surrounded by desert, it is known as the ‘Alcatraz of the Rockies’ – home to 400 of America’s most dangerous convicts.

And if hate preacher Abu Hamza is convicted of terror charges in the U.S., he could spend the rest of his life in this Colorado Supermax prison – in a cramped cell measuring 12ft by 7ft.

Britain was last night finally on the verge of being rid of the hook-handed cleric after Euro judges ruled he could be extradited to the States.

The jail that may await him is in the town of Florence and is seen as the crown jewel of the federal prison system: prisoners are kept in solitary confinement 23 hours a day; food is hand-delivered by guards to cells; it contains 1,400 remote-controlled steel doors; and there is no library to meet fellow inmates.

The perimeter is surrounded by 12ft-high razor-wire, while lasers, guard dogs and motion sensors add to the security.

According to the Guinness Book Of World Records, it is the most secure prison on Earth.

The European Court of Human Rights said it was satisfied Hamza and a band of fellow Islamist extremists would be well-treated in America – because they will be offered the chance to watch TV, and enjoy ‘crafts’ and other hobbies in jail.

The men, whose legal battle has cost the British taxpayer at least £4million over the past decade, had claimed it would be unfair to potentially lock them up for life inside one of the supposedly tough Supermax high-security prisons.

Current inmates at the Colorado jail – known as ADX (Administrative Maximum Facility) – include British shoe bomber Richard Reid, ‘Unabomber’ Ted Kaczynski, and Zacarias Moussaoui, the ’20th hijacker’ in the September 11 attacks.

Hamza, who claims to have lost his limbs waging jihad against Soviet troops in Afghanistan, looks certain to die in a U.S. jail if convicted.

The 53-year-old, who spouted hatred from outside Finsbury Park mosque in North London, is facing five decades behind bars.

David Cameron, who had been braced for a defeat, breathed a huge sigh of relief at yesterday’s decision.

His officials had feared that if Hamza had been told he could stay in Britain, the demands to quit the European court’s jurisdiction would have become overwhelming.

Tory MPs are still smarting from Europe’s decision to ban the extradition of Al Qaeda hate preacher Abu Qatada. They would have been unwilling to tolerate another reversal.

Yesterday’s verdict buys Mr Cameron some time to reform the unelected Strasbourg court, in particular by speeding up the painfully long time it takes to reach a verdict.

He also avoids an immediate confrontation with the Lib Dems, who would have resisted any attempt to defy the court’s wishes.

While the mood at Westminster was celebratory, some Tory MPs called for Hamza – a convicted hate preacher and terrorist, who would have been free to walk our streets if he had won yesterday – to be put on a plane by the end of the week.

Clacton MP Douglas Carswell said: ‘If the French government can stick troublemakers on a plane and kick them out within 48 hours then we ought to be able to do the same as well.

Early 1980s: Hamza comes to the UK to study. He meets and marries Valerie Fleming and gets British citizenship.

1991: Goes to Afghanistan to fight invading Soviets. Loses hands and an eye making bombs.

SEPT 2001: In speech at North London’s Finsbury Park mosque he praises Osama Bin Laden and the 9/11 terrorists.

FEB 2003: Describes destroyed Columbia space shuttle, which carried Christians, Hindus and a Jew, as “trinity of evil”. He says tragedy was Allah’s punishment.

MAY 2004: Arrested on a US extradition warrant.

OCT 2004: Charged with 15 offences under the Terrorism Act, including incitement to murder.

FEB 2006: Jailed for seven years.

FEB 2008: Extradition order signed but put on hold by Hamza’s appeal.

AUG 2008: European Court of Human Rights rules Hamza cannot be extradited until judges examine his case.

FEB 2010: Legal aid officers seize Hamza’s house in Greenford, West London, to pay off bills.

NOV 2010: Hamza wins appeal over bid to strip him of British passport.
