A radical Muslim blogger accused of sending state Sen. Greg Ball, R-Carmel, a stuffed monkey with a note reading “Final Destination … Auschwitz” was shot dead on Christmas after she allegedly assaulted a police officer.

An officer in Cobb County, Ga., killed 53-year-old Jameela Barnette after she allegedly came at him with a gun and knife shortly after 11 a.m. She had just opened her door for police, who were investigating back-to-back panic alarms activated in her Marietta apartment.

“Moments after knocking on the door, (Barnette) opened it and began assaulting the officer with the weapons,” Cobbs County police reported in a news release. “Despite receiving injuries to his arm, the officer was able to use his service weapon to stop the assault.”

Barnette died at the scene. The officer, who was treated there and released, was placed on administrative leave pending an investigation.

Ball’s spokesperson said the senator has been notified of Barnette’s death. His office, citing the FBI in Atlanta, said Barnette was arrested and indicted on federal charges last month “for her role in mailing the hoax weapons of mass destruction package to our office,” and that, “The U.S. District Court judge allowed her to be released on her own recognizance.”

The Georgia grandmother told Gannett News Service in April that she sent Ball the Curious George doll with the anti-Semitic note and cheap perfume. The monkey was pinned with Stars of David and the letter, which addressed Ball as “Dead Man Walking” because he is “using Muslims to further his career.”

Barnette sent the package to Ball’s Albany office, prompting a response by state police and a hazardous materials unit, which transported it to a state Health Department laboratory for analysis.

She also laid claim to mailing a bloody pig’s foot to U.S. Rep. Peter King of Long Island.

Ball chairs the Senate Veterans, Homeland Security and Military Affairs Committee, which convened in New York City a week before the package was delivered. The committee was assessing the region’s preparedness for another terrorist attack, and Ball was criticized by some Democratic senators and community and religious groups for linking Islamic religious practices with America’s security.

King, who spoke at Ball’s hearing, clashed with Muslims in March after organizing congressional hearings into the radicalization of Muslims in this country.

She told the Lower Hudson Journal News that she sent the monkey because: ‘I knew the Jews were behind the hearings. A monkey is a representation of who the Jews are.’ Rep King’s letter also contained anti-Semitic tirades and references to him being a Jew — even though he’s Catholic. The letter reported ended with the phrase, ‘kiss my black, Muslim-American a**.’
